The a new report released by one of the UK’s leading car breakdown services suggest that male drivers in their mid 20s to early 30s are most liable to have a driving conviction in the UK and this could have an impact on the cost of short term car insurance for young drivers.
The report found that male drivers are around one-and-a-half times more likely to have a conviction than female drivers. This is one of the major reasons why women are able to purchase significantly lower insurance premiums in the UK. Most companies view women as a far smaller risk of causing an accident than their male counterparts.
Around 20% of make drivers in the UK currently hold a driving conviction. These are driving offenses ranging from speeding to drink-driving offences. However, in comparison, only 15% of women have been procescuted.
A director of the breakdown service, said: “Whatever your age or sex, insurers take notice of driving offences, especially multiple offenders and this is reflected in premiums.”
The more a driver manages to keep on the right side of the law, the more likely they will be to receive cheaper temporary and long term car insurance deals in the UK.
